Funds raised will support the introduction of scalp cooling services at Maroondah Hospital’s Day Oncology Unit with the purchase of two scalp cooling machines. Two scalp cooling machines will treat four women simultaneously.
A scalp cooling machine prevents hair loss resulting from breast cancer chemotherapy. This will drastically reduce the visible trauma and stigma of cancer, thus preserving self-esteem and dignity for women receiving treatment for breast cancer.
Maroondah Hospital, part of Eastern Health and our local community hospital, will become the first public health service in Victoria, and most likely Australia, to offer this new scalp cooling treatment free of charge to women receiving breast cancer chemotherapy.
This campaign is an initiative of Ringwood East and Heathmont Bendigo Community Bank.
